But between MDE airport and El Poblado lie 38 km of mountain road demanding respect: sharp curves at 2,500m elevation, dense fog reducing visibility to meters, 12% grade descents, and heavy truck traffic sharing a road that doesn't forgive mistakes. Via the conventional route the trip takes 45-75 minutes; via the Oriente Tunnel (toll ~$16,800 COP, included in our fare) it drops to 25-35 minutes — but still requires a professional driver who knows every meter.
